Solomons Bar Association calls on AG Moti to quit

4:55 pm on 23 August 2007

The Solomon Islands Bar Association has called for Attorney-General Julian Moti to step down from office and return to Australia to face child sex charges.

Mr Moti, an Australian citizen of Fiji-Indian origin, is wanted in Australia on charges of raping a 13-year-old girl in Vanuatu in 1997.

The bar association says it has asked Mr Moti to step down from his post until the charges against him are resolved.

Mr Moti has accused Australian authorities of engaging in a political witch hunt against him and says the sex charges have already been dismissed by a court in Vanuatu.
