Vanuatu and Vietnam meet to further ties

3:10 pm on 26 November 2007

Vanuatu's Foreign Minister George Wells has visited Vietnam to advance co-operation between the two countries.

Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung pledged to help Vanuatu in the areas of agriculture, aquaculture, infrastructure and urban construction.

The Vietnam News Agency reports that Dung also expressed a desire to further develop bilateral relations, including contributing to the common development of the international Francophone community.

He said a Vietnamese delegation of ministry and industry leaders would soon visit Vanuatu to build economic co-operation between the two governments.

Although the two countries established diplomatic links in 1982, Mr Wells' visit is the first visit to Vietnam by a Vanuatu Government delegation.
