Solomon Islands delivers hard hitting statement at United Nations

Solomon Islands has delivered a hard hitting statement at the 52nd session on the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting corporation says Helen Beck who delivered the speech said in the history of the Commission the actions don't match the challenge to improve the lives of women all over the world.

Mrs Beck, Counselor at the Permanent Mission of the Solomon Islands to the UN, said the current session is the 52nd Conference, yet the words, have not been matched with the resources.

She said the time has come to reflect on how best the lives of all women can be improved, despite all the frameworks and events.

She said the increasing cost of food, fossil fuel, the impact of Climate Change, HIV/AIDS and Malaria has further marginalised women from the international financial and economic systems.
