Solomon Islands' Minister of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification, Edward Huni'ehu, says a conference last week in Washington was helpful as the country pushes ahead with its plans for rural development.

He says the International Renewable Energy conference was directly in line with the Government's focus on rural electrification through the use of renewable energy.

Mr Huni'ehu says this will not only improve rural peoples' standards of living but also foster economic growth.

Mr Huni'ehu also had talks with Canadian mining company, INCO, to try and obtain data on its exploration of nickel deposits on Isabel in the 1960's.
