Fiji public servants query pay policies and cut exemptions

The Fiji Public Service Association has raised questions about the interim government's pay policies.

It has told fijilive.com that the five-percent across-the-board pay cut imposed on public servants after the 2006 coup didn't extend to the interim ministers.

The Association wonders why the austerity measures only applied to non-ministers as all salaries are drawn from the same public funds.

Last month, the interim government decided to restore the pay cuts in two steps but not to offer backpay.
