Bird expert spots mistake on new PNG stamp

A bird expert says Papua New Guinea's post office placed the wrong endangered bird on a new stamp.

PNG field biologist, Leo Legra, says Post PNG is using a South American Harpy Eagle on its 85 toea stamp rather than the endangered New Guinea Harpy Eagle.

Speaking from his new home in Kansas, Mr Legra said he made the discovery while searching the internet for the bird he had spent years studying in PNG's Eastern Highlands Province.

He has demanded that Post PNG recall the stamps.

The head of Post PNG Philatelic Bureau, Peter Maiden, says it is investigating the issue.
