The Tongan government has confirmed that the Crown Prince of Japan, Prince Naruhito, and Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand, have confirmed that they will be in Nuku'alofa for the Coronation of King George Tupou V on August 1.

The Matangi Tonga website reports the deputy secretary of Tonga's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tevita Kolo, has also confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will represent the British royal family.

Other royal families have been officially invited but are yet to confirm their attendance.

Meanwhile King George Tupou V is to visit each of the outer island groups of Vava'u, Ha'apai, 'Eua and the two Niuas following his coronation.

People on the outer islands will hold their own celebrations, a week after the main celebration concludes in Tongatapu, and the King is encouraging them not to travel to the capital for the festivities.
