Solomons' police clampdown on anti social behaviour in Honiara

3:00 pm on 10 June 2008

Honiara police arrested more than 30 people over the weekend for anti-social behaviour caused by the misuse of alcohol.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation report the provincial police commander for Honiara, Superintendent Phillip Kaukui, saying the actions of some members of the community on the weekend were unacceptable.

Superintendent Kaukui says the law abiding citizens of Honiara should not be subjected to the drunken behaviour exhibited at the weekend.

Mr Kaukui says the unruly behaviour resulted in damage to property and people being assaulted.

He says given the rising cost of food in Honiara, he is surprised many people continue to over indulge on alcohol.
