Lack of professional marketing affecting American Samoa tourism industry

American Samoa's Governor's Economic Advisory Council has identified lack of professional marketing as the biggest challenge hindering tourism development.

In its first report to the governor, the council says American Samoa needs to reinvent a tourism campaign.

It notes that the establishment of the American Samoa Visitors Bureau is a step in that direction but more action is needed to develop the territory as a tourist destination.

It lists projects to complete within 6 months: defining a product and theme for tourism marketing, coordinate private sector services with the villages and identify conferences, sporting events and other gatherings that can be held in the Territory.

The Economic Advisory Council recommends that the American Samoa Government be proactive in providing opportunities for greater outreach and collaborations with the private sector on tourism.
