Senior police officer in Samoa appears in court on sex charges

7:01 am on 5 February 2009

The court case of a senior police officer in Samoa facing sex charges including, one count of sodomy and five of indecent assault, has been adjourned until the 24th of February without a plea.

The man, who has name suppression, appeared in the District court yesterday.

Reports say the adjournment will allow the defense counsel to receive more details of the charges from the police before the officer enters a plea.

The complaint was made by a former juvenile prisoner at the Olomanu Young offenders Rehabilitation Center.

Meanwhile, local reporters covering the story in court yesterday are questioning why court officials and the police delayed the calling of the case for more than two hours.

The senior officer's case was number six on the list, but it wasn't heard until after midday when several reporters left the court house.
