Fiji's interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama says Fiji is ready to face the consequences of being suspended from the Commonwealth.
This is after Commodore Bainimarama dismissed the call by the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group, or CMAG, on Thursday for Fiji to restore democracy by December this year or lose its membership of the organisation.
Commodore Bainimarama has told Fijilive that the Commonwealth also isolated Fiji after its first coup in 1987, but the country survived.
He has reiterated that if the Commonwealth wants to suspend Fiji after December then they should do it now.
The commodore says nothing is going to change.
He says if Fiji goes into elections now, it is not going to serve any purpose, but will probably make things worse for the people of Fiji.
Meanwhile the Movement for Democracy in Fiji has welcomed the decision by CMAG..
Chairperson Attar Singh says the decision is a clear indictment of the interim administration for violating the values in in the Commonwealth's Harare Declaration.
Mr Singh says in that Declaration, in 1991 - Commonwealth countries had pledged to work for the protection and promotion of international political values namely democracy, democratic processes and institutions, fundamental human rights, the rule of law including the independence of the judiciary and, just and honest government.
