American Samoa's ASPA rents generators from NZ

The American Samoan Power Authority says renting four small generators from New Zealand means it now has enough reserve capacity in the event of one of its six working generators going down.

For the past five weeks the Power Authority has been plagued with several power outages on the main of Tutuila, resulting in numerous public complaints.

Two out of the eight generators are being repaired.

The Power Authority chief executive officer, Michael Keyser, says the authority has taken "stop-gap measure" to address the lack of reserve power by renting four small units from the firm, New Zealand Generators.
