The Pacific Islands Forum has appointed a Fiji academic and former government official as its new representative in Solomon Islands.

Sakiusa Rabuka replaces Dr Lesi Korovavala who resigned in October last year.

The Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, Tuiloma Neroni Slade, says the experience Mr Rabuka brings will enhance the relationship between the Forum, the Solomons' Government and the Regional Assistance Mission.

Mr Slade says his responsibilities will include liaising with the Government over the goals and objectives that have been set for RAMSI.

Mr Rabuka has been teaching law at the University of Fiji and previously had extensive work experience as a senior officer with the Fiji Government, including as a diplomat at the UN in New York.
