The Solomon Islands Government has been called upon to assist forestry resource owners to develop and maintain their plantations.

Chief Didimus Kikolo of Isabel province made the call in light of the financial difficulties he faced while trying to improve his mahogany plantation.

The SIBC reports, Chief Kikolo, as saying many forest resource owners find it difficult to improve on their plantations without government subsidies or financial support.

He says forestry resource owners need financial assistance for a whole range of forestry operations - including forest clearance, feeder roads construction, forests nursery and replanting.
