Solomons ministers told weak budgets a reflection of themselves

A parliamentary special select committee reviewing the functions of the national referral hospital in Solomon Islands has been told weak budgets reflect the ministers who look after the ministries.

The Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Shadreck Fanega, spoke about the weakness in relation to how the government has under budgeted for the service.

He also says matters are made worse when senior officials of ministries do not turn up for budget consultations.

Mr Fanega said ministries with strong budgets are those with strong ministers who argue for the funds they need to carry out their activities.

The review continues with more government officials being expected to appear before the committee.
