Letters to Fiji interim regime plea for a speedy return to parliamentary democracy

8:04 pm on 22 February 2010

The author of a letter calling for Fiji to return to parliamentary democracy is hoping for a response from the interim regime by tomorrow.

The letter, signed on behalf of the Naduku family, calls for a swift transition to an elected government.

The letter, and another one in support, from the Australia-based Fiji Democracy Movement, were handed to the regime late last week.

Its author, Vilisi Nadaku, says under the Public Emergency Regulations, people are scared to speak out.

"I have taken it upon myself to be a voice for these voiceless people, many thousands of people out there, who would like this nation to go back to a parliamentary government, mandated by the people."
