4:38 pm on 17 June 2010

Two female police officers in American Samoa have been treated in hospital for injuries from a hammer attack while responding to a public peace disturbance call.

One officer sustained injuries on her forehead while another received cuts on her feet.

Police say the officers were responding to a call from a family in Nuuuli, saying that the suspect was breaking up things in the house.

The suspect has been arrested and been charged with disturbing the peace.

The government says it will file additional charges.
