Solomon Islands uses theatre to explain electoral process

The Solomon Islands electoral commission is stressing its key message of 'one vote, one place' during its regional voter awareness program.

The Commission began the program in Malaita Province last week and plans to tour all the provinces ahead of the election, which is now just one month away.

As part of the program, performers from the Sei Theatre drama are dramatising the voting process.

Election Training Advisor Francis Iro says that includes demonstrating the correct marking of ballot papers and inking fingers to prevent people from voting twice.

"During this awareness program, the main thing is one vote, one place in the national general elections, and in that drama they are trying to tell the people the importance of you, one vote, one place and we'll expect a good result instead of you running around trying to have a second chance to vote."

Francis Iro says drama has been an effective means of education during previous elections and there's been a good response to the program this year.
