The Solomon Islands Ministry of Home Affairs has declared election day, Wednesday 4 August, a national public holiday.

The Chief Electoral Officer, Polycarp Haununu, says the Commission is now satisfied that every voter has an equal chance to get to a polling station.

He says election day has been a public holiday during previous elections.

Mr Haununu has called on all registered voters to exercise their democratic right to freely, fairly and safely cast their votes next week.
