New Zealand police officers in Fiji are hoping to interview the husband of a woman who was burned alive.

The body of Ranjeeta Sharma, who was 28, was found on a road near Huntly last Thursday night.

The next day her husband left for Fiji with their four year old son.

The man was found by the Fiji police in Rakiraki on the main island of Viti Levu and has been in custody since Monday night.

The police have been seeking legal advice from the Crown solicitor, and are considering options for returning the man to New Zealand, including extradition.

They have refused to give any details about the couple's four year old son, except to say they are working to make sure he is cared for.
