The Suva High Court has refused an application by former Fiji prime minister Mahendra Chaudhry to travel to the United States to attend his sister's 70th birthday.

Radio Fiji reports Judge Justice Daniel Goundar stating the court's concern was over Mr Chaudhry's frequency of travel.

He also added the that Fiji Labour Party leader has not entered a plea since he was charged in July of last year.

Mahendra Chaudhry faces charges of tax evasion and will enter his plea on the 17th of this month.

Justice Goundar noted the plea taking should not be unnecessarily delayed.
