American Samoa customs collections exceeds 3 million US dollars

The American Samoa Treasurer, Magalei Logovii, has announced that customs collections for the month of June have exceeded 3 million US dollars.

It is the first time in many years that collections have reached that amount.

It's believed that the Section 1602 low income housing program, Federal Emergency Management Agency funded homes, and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funded projects have contributed to the surge in excise taxes.

Last month Governor Togiola Tulafono ended a reduction in work hours for government employees paid with local revenues citing improved revenue collections.
