5:33 pm on 20 April 2012

Fiji's interim prime minister has named the women's rights activist Peni Moore the final member of the five-strong constitutional commission.

The commission will oversee consultations and the drafting of a new document to be signed off by the end of next February.

The regime abolished the constitution in 2009 after the appeal court ruled that the interim government was illegal.

In a statement, the Ministry of Information describes the Creative Director for the group Women's Action for Change as having engaged marginalised communities, empowered women, been a mentor to at risk youth and rehabilitated former prisoners.

The Chairperson of the Constitutional Commission is the veteran constitution-maker Professor Yash Ghai.
