11:14 am on 6 July 2012

The Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, Gordon Darcy Lilo, has promised preparations for business hubs in provinces are soon to begin.

The Solomon Star reports that Mr Lilo made the assurance when he officially opened the National Trade and Agriculture show yesterday afternoon.

He says the Ministry of Commerce Industry labour and Immigration has commenced preparatory work for the establishment of Small and Medium Enterprises Hubs in Temotu, Makira, Malaita and Guadalcanal.

Mr Lilo says this arrangement is a classic example of partnership arrangements between the government and private sector for promotion and development of SME's.

He says the Ministry has begun its consultation process towards establishment of a Small and Medium Enterprise Support Fund after identifying a few impediments constraining the local existing and potential entrepreneurs from expanding their business activities
