School buses and vans for children with disabilities in the Northern Marianas may soon run out of fuel if no money is found by the Public School System.
The Education Commissioner, Rita Sablan, says the lack of money to buy fuel for student transportation as an immediate challenge because it may render the school bus fleet non-operational.
Saipan alone has 16 buses and seven vans for special education students and needs about 34 thousand US dollars a month to meet fuel needs.
The CNMI Public School System is only allocated two million dollars a year for operations, including utilities and fuel costs.
