The Archbishop of Canterbury has paid a visit to Papua New Guinea's Government House on the first leg of his five-day tour.
The itinerary of the Most Reverend Rowan Williams and his wife, Dr Jane Williams, includes a visit to Popondetta and Oro Bay to open a new Anglican teacher's college.
He is also expected in Milne Bay to hold mass before heading back to Port Moresby where he will meet the inter-faith group, the Anglican Roman Catholic Commission, and visit the non-government aid group, Anglicare PNG.
With 80 million worshippers, the Anglican faith is the third largest Christian church in the world, but represents just 3.2 percent of PNG's Christians.
His trip comes ahead of the three-day royal visit to PNG of Prince Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla in early November.
