Australia has announced a new High Commissioner to Tonga.
Brett Aldam is expected to take up his appointment next month, replacing Thomas Roth.
The Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Mr Aldam has been a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and is a former Australian High Commissioner to Kiribati.
He has previously served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian High Commission in Nairobi and as Third Secretary at the Australian High Commission in Suva.
Australia will this year provide more than 34 million US dollars to Tonga in development assistance to support local education and health, including safe drinking water.
