A US company, The Louis Berger Group, says it has won a 36 million US dollar contract to help rebuild the Satala Power Plant in Pago Pago, American Samoa, destroyed in the September 2009 tsunami.

The contract was awarded by the American Samoa Power Authority and is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's three-tiered approach to replacing the plant.

The new equipment will include seven primary generators and two emergency back-up generators.

It is also expected to reduce the power company's total plant lifecycle costs.
