The leader of the Fiji Labour Party says claims by the attorney general that previous governments never complied with the 1997 constitution by not revealing their salaries is wrong and misleading.
This comes as the regime's leaders again delayed the publication of their salaries, saying calls for their disclosure are just political posturing by opponents.
The attorney-general, Aiyaz-Sayed Khaiyum, says no previous governments have declared their salaries or assets and liabilities.
Mr Chaudhry, who was the Prime Minister from 1999 to 2000, says the salaries of parliamentarians were always available for the public to see.
"He is plainly lying. That is nonsense because the salaries and allowances of MPs were always determined by a Parliamentary Commission and the report of this commission was published and it was public knowledge, so everyone in the country knew what parliamentarians were paid and this was paid through the Ministry of Finance."
Mr Chaudhry says he is amazed at how secretive the regime is being about their salaries and says the government must have something to hide.
