Solomon Islands secured their passage to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Tahiti later this month after winning the OFC Beach Soccer Championship in New Caledonia yesterday.

A glut of goals in the third period led to a 6-nil victory over the hosts at the University of New Caledonia in Noumea.

Joe Luwi scored the game's opening goal in the second period and later scored two more in quick succession in the final period cementing his place as the tournament's top goal scorer.

Solomon Islands coach Gideon Omokirio says being able to compete at the World Cup in their region will be a real bonus.

The Bilikiki cleaned up in the individual awards with goalkeeper and captain Fred Hale picking up the Golden Gloves and Samson Takayama taking home the Golden Ball trophy.

Solomon Islands will meet Netherlands, El Salvador and Argentina in Group B at the World Cup which is being held from September 18-28 in Papeete.
