Guam senator proposes ferry service between island and CNMI

2:44 pm on 21 January 2014

A public hearing for a resolution that would encourage a ferry service between Guam and the Northern Marianas will be held in Guam today.

The resolution was introduced by Guam Senator Tina Muna Barnes, who says the lack of passenger and cargo capacity, combined with a high cost of travel, prevents tourism and interisland economic development in both territories.

The Pacific Daily News reports Ms Barnes as saying that she's working closely with counterparts in the CNMI who she says are very receptive to the idea.
