The Solomon islands government has set a new date for voter registration ahead of this year's planned general election.

Registration is to begin on March 10 and run for 40 days during which field officials will be deployed throughout entire constituencies to collect data.

More than 800 registration centres have been identified and established throughout the country for the exercise.

Meanwhile, a newly introduced biometric registration system will be used for the first time this year in the country's election history.
