Voter registration process in Solomon Islands begins today

8:22 am on 10 March 2014

The process to register voters in the Solomon Islands begins today, in what the Prime Minister is calling an unprecedented activity in the country's election history.

An advanced biometric voter registration system has been deployed nationwide.

It is hoped this system will allow fast and accurate identification and enrolment of voters and reduce the possibility of electoral fraud.

Gordon Darcy Lilo says an accurate Electoral Roll is the cornerstone of any election and that if it's not up to date then the election results will be viewed with a great deal of suspicion.

He says an up-to-date roll will ensure that everyone will be able to have their say on polling day later this year and the result will properly reflect the will of the people.
