Reports from French Polynesia say a man suspected of raping a German tourist has committed suicide.
The alleged crime took place on the southern island of Rurutu last week.
The man was arrested and flown to Tahiti where he had been held in jail.
He reportedly had been convicted in the past for a sex crime.
