The singles and doubles competition gets underway at the Oceania Tennis Championships in Cairns on Wednesday.

Australia and New Caledonia won the men's and women's teams competition, which wrapped up after three days of action.

Executive Officer for Oceania Tennis, David Smith, says plenty of the region's top players are in action, including Samoa's Steffi Carruthers.

"Steffi as you know has been playing on the women's tour. Her ranking got to just inside the top 900. In the New Caledonia team they had Yaelle Honakoko and also Elodie Launay - her maiden name was Dietrich-Rogge - so they were the two players who actually won the teams event for New Caledonia and the individual events, the singles and the doubles, they're starting into day one".
