The Multinational Observer Group monitoring the Fiji election says the result broadly represents the will of the Fiji people.
The 92 observers from 13 countries, the European Union and the Melanesian Spearhead Group visited about a third of polling stations on election day.
The co-leader of the group Peter Reith says despite compressed time frames, a complex voting system and restrictions, it was a credible election.
"The 2014 Fijian election, the first election since 2006, was enthusiastically embraced by the voters of Fiji who were keen to participate in the democratic process. The election was conducted in an atmosphere of calm with an absence of electoral misconduct or evident intimidation."
The group also said the police played an important role and built confidence.
It did not observe any irregularities in the counting process but saw some in voter registration, pre-polling and postal voting which partly stemmed from the short preparation time.
The group will put together a more detailed report.
