2015 Pacific tourism expo in Melbourne

11:45 am on 12 February 2015

At least 80 buyers and sellers of tourism in the Pacific are expected to converge on Melbourne on the 19th and 20th of June for the second edition of the region's only travel and tourism expo.

Registrations for the South Pacific Tourism Exchange opened this week, with spaces going for around 1500 US dollars.

Event organiser, the South Pacific Tourism Organisation says interest in the expo has grown by about 60% compared to the inaugural expo held in Auckland last year.

SPTO Marketing manager Alisi Lutu says this reflects the appetite for travel in the region and the need for better promotion of its products and services to international buyers.

"And it gives them the opportunity to meet 16 Pacific Island countries and also the operators. Whether it's the hoteliers, the tour operators, the excursion and the tour operators the regional airlines. Or the national tourism bodies just to get an understanding of where, of the different destinations what they sell."
