Celebrations around King George Tupou VI's coronation, which officially began last Saturday, include a fashion show, a royal luncheon, a military parade and more.

The country's schools are gathering at Teu Faiva stadium to march in a parade before the King, while student work from around Tonga will be on display.

Primary school children will later present their cultural dance items and performances.

Irene Tonga, a senior student at Queen Salote College, says Tonga's come a long way in the field of education.

"I think it's marvellous that he chose a day to mark out the education in Tonga. Because his kingdom is improving, his country is improving."

The King will be formally crowned at the Pangai Lahi field and the Royal Palace compound on July the 4th.
