Relief supplies stolen in PNG highlands

A shipping container full of relief supplies for drought-affected Papua New Guinea has been robbed of all its contents.

The Post Courier reports the supplies were headed for Erave in the Southern Highlands province.

The Erave district project coordinator, Gideon Kuma, says people from Yalo Bridge and Seven Kona in Kagua district blocked the road with a big log, stopped the container truck and unloaded bags of rice, tinned fish, cooking oil, salt and other basics.

He says the more than 500 people of Erave waiting for the supplies to arrive were very angry, confused and helpless when they heard that their food supplies had been stolen.
