Under a new law about 10 million subscribers to mobile phones in Papua New Guinea will be registered next year.
The Post Courier reports that the government is also bringing in the International Telecommunication Union to train enforcement agencies how to identify fake users of social media.
The Communication and Information Technology Minister, Jimmy Miringtoro, says the moves will be part of the Cybercrime Policy and the Regulation on SIM Card registration.
The government will establish an inter-agency Cybercrime Group to provide oversight for the policy implementation.
Mr Miringtoro says the legal mechanisms will address the negative impacts of ICT that have affected PNG society over the years.
