11:55 am on 15 September 2016

The Australian Paralympics team have provided a timely boost to Fiji high jumper Epeli Baleibau in Rio.

The 44 year old arrived in Brazil with only a pair of sprinting spikes ahead of his competition in the final of the F47 Men's High Jump on Saturday morning.

His main adversary in Friday's competition, Aaron Chatman from Australia, came to the rescue of his Oceania colleague, donating his training shoes to Mr Baleibau at the Australian Team Headquarters.

Chatman is the former World record holder in the T47 High jump and won the silver medal at the Beijing Paralympic Games in 2008.

Also on hand at the handover of the shoes was Fiji's London Paralympic gold medallist in the F42 High jump, Iliesa Delana, who is now the Junior Minister for Youth & Sport in Fiji.
