Papua New Guinea's earthquake-devastated Highlands has been rocked by yet another massive tremor.

The United States Geological Survey said a magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck 88 kilometres west-southwest of Porgera, in Enga province.

It struck at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The epicentre is only slightly west of Hela and Southern Highlands provinces, which were devastated by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake on 26 February.

That tremor killed at least 125 people and left hundreds of thousands in need of aid more than a month later.
