Sport: Fiji and Tonga Under 20s seek improvements

Fiji and Tonga have plenty to improve on after heavy first up defeats in the Oceania Rugby U20s Championship on the Gold Coast.

Fiji were thrashed 51-5 by Australia on Friday and captain Raikabula Momoedonu said it wouldn't be any easier against defending champions New Zealand this afternoon.

"Yeah it's going to be a tough battle for us, we're expecting [it to be] hard as well, even more, but we're sure we're going to give our best" he said.

"So just look at the positives and try to keep up on those and improve on a bit of the negatives."

Tonga leaked a whopping 15 tries in a lopsided 97-0 defeat by New Zealand and loose forward Maka Mafileo says they have to be a lot better against hosts Australia tonight.

"It was a good learning curve for all of us," he said.

"We're still a young team and still got more to learn like our positioning in defence we still need to learn. Just ruck area as well, still learning."

Australia and New Zealand will represent Oceania at the World Rugby Under 20s Championship in France in June, while Fiji will contest the second tier World Rugby Under 20s Trophy in Romania in November.
