Vanuatu's police force has to resolve past prolems involving its officers in order to resume contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions, the country's foreign minister says.
Ralph Regenvanu was replying to a question in parliament from opposition MP Albert William, who asked why the country had stopped sending police officers on UN duties.
The Daily Post reported the minister saying the Police Service Commission had been delayed in dealing with an officer implicated in past peacekeeping issues because of a lack of suitable members to hear the officer's case.
Vanuatu sent police officers on UN missions globally between 2000 and 2016, with the largest contingent of 29 officers going to Sudan in 2009.
