Tuvaluans in New Zealand have been urged to turn to their traditional ways to address family violence.

Sagaa Malua of the Tuvalu Auckland Community Trust, said while the issue is being pushed to the forefront in Tuvalu, the same should be done by her people in New Zealand.

Ms Malua said they are travelling around New Zealand speaking to Tuvaluan families about family violence and will launch a plan for the community later this month.

"It's important to convey that the family is all right. It's hard to identify, even with our women, when we run workshops that they need to talk, to lodge their complain if they are abused by their husbands."
