A State of Emergency has been declared on the South Island's West Coast as heavy rain and possible flooding threatens the region.
The MetService upgraded its weather warning for the area to red, with up to 550mm of rain to fall from today until Thursday night.
Slips and floodwaters are likely to disrupt travel, making some roads impassable and possibly isolating communities
It could be the regions third major flood in 18 months.

The fight continues for the Auckland Mayoral with candidates now hoping the departure of Leo Malloy will mean his supporters swing behind them.
In the lastest poll former Far North Mayor and businessman Wayne Brown sits second behind the early favourite Labour's Efeso Collins.
Those candidates on the right of Efeso are now battling amongst themselves for Molloy's supporters and he will meet with Viv Beck's team this week to discuss a public endorsement
Last night we interviewed Viv about why she was the best chance against Efeso and now it's Wayne's chance.

After days of accusations and counter allegations of bullying and inappropriate behaviour earlier tonight Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced MP Gaurav Sharma has been suspended from caucus
Sharma went public last week with allegations of "rampant" bullying within Parliament, with an opinion piece in the New Zealand Herald then in social media posts
He will continue on as the MP for Hamilton West and be expected to be present at Parliament

It's a treasure trove of more than 5 million New Zealand historical documents that can be explored, online and for free,
And now Papers Past is celebrating 21 years since it's launch.
The service is organised into five formats - newspapers, magazines and journals, letters and diaries, parliamentary papers, and books
Its popularity is growing each year and it now has around 30 million page views and around two million visitors annually.
