12:00 PRINCE

This coming Wednesday (21st April) will mark five years since Prince passed away. He was 57.

Undoubtedly a music icon, he’s regarded as one of the greatest musicians of his generation.

We look back at the life and music of Prince- expect to hear all of his classic hits, as well as Prince covers, and a few songs you may not have known he wrote.

We also play a brand new Prince track and discuss his massive vault of unreleased music which allegedly has thousands of unheard songs.

Prince’s newest album from the vault is called Welcome 2 America and will be available on July 30th. It’s “a powerful creative statement that documents Prince’s concerns, hopes and visions for a shifting society, presciently foreshadowing an era of political division, disinformation and a renewed fight for racial justice.”

3.30  Nick Bollinger gets In the spirit

Nick Bollinger guides us through Black America's rich tradition of religious song.

Black Americans made some of the most earth-shaking sounds of the 20th century. For a start, they invented jazz and the blues, and today it would be hard to find a corner of the planet where the impact of those vital musical forms hasn't been felt. But they also produced one of the most profound bodies of religious music. Join Nick Bollinger for a guide to Black America's rich tradition of religious song: In the Spirit.

We're playing Nick's full piece in parts over the next 2 weeks on Music 101. If you'd like to listen to the full production, click below.
