3.40 Otautahi rapper Vallé

Christchurch rapper Vallé came to New Zealand from Papua New Guinea when he was just eight months old, to receive treatment for malaria and rickets. When he talked to Tony Stamp in 2020, he had recently made the trip back home to reconnect with his family. Since then he’s released a string of successful singles, and has just put out his debut EP Caged Birds.

Vallé and Tony reconnected for a conversation in our Auckland studio.

Our guest on the Mixtape picking his 6 favourite songs is Melodownz.

An Award winning rapper, poet, and host of the brilliant youtube show Kava Corner, Melodownz is a pillar in the Aotearoa hip-hop scene and has been for close to a decade.

He's the first act signed to the Kiwi arm of legendary hip-hop label Def Jam and this week released his debut album Lone Wolf. The album includes features from the likes of funk legend Bootsy Collins, Denzel Curry and Troy Kingi to name a few, and pays homage to his roots growing up in Avondale, West Auckland and everyone who helped raise him along the way.
