Employers rank work ethic as key skill

Employers have ranked work ethic and verbal communication as the most important skills for university graduates.

A Victoria University survey found 346 employers of new graduates also want job applicants to display enthusiasm, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

The university said the results suggested employers wanted graduates who they could rely on, were ready to take on responsibility, produce quality work and had strong written and communication skills.

It said team work, interpersonal skills and self-management were also highly ranked.
