Two kayakers have been rescued from the Whanganui River after getting into trouble on the water this afternoon.
Police and Department of Conservation staff helped rescue the pair, who got into difficulty shortly after launching their hired kayaks on the Whanganui River in Taumaranui.
The woman became trapped in an overhanging tree and her partner tried to help her but staff had to take a boat out to rescue them, police said.
